Capitalism Made This Worse, & This destruction Will Soon Ruin Capitalism

Why capitalism won’t survive it, and what a brighter future might actually look like. To understand climate change, one environmental historian says we need to realize we've entered a new era: The Capitalocene

YOU and I have the unfortunate honor of facing down a crisis the likes of which our species have never seen before. Sudden climate change of our own making is transforming every bit of ocean and land, imperiling organisms clear across the tree of life. It’s killing everyone by way of stronger storms and hotter heat waves, cyclones and unchecked pollution.

The world’s leading climate scientists have warned there is only a dozen years for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C, beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people. The half-degree difference could also prevent corals from being completely eradicated and ease pressure on the Arctic, according to the 1.5C study, which was launched after approval at a final plenary of all 195 countries in Incheon in South Korea that saw delegates hugging one another, with some in tears.

It's not only about consumption, carbon and human population—also about hidden agenda of chronic capitalism that leaves nothing for next generation. We need a new human right understanding for future generations. Their lives should not be sacrificed to satisfy few capitalists' greed.

The first article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. But this statement is almost with no meaning, because there is nothing in the declaration insisting that one generation cannot steal from the next. The missing article might look like this: “Every generation shall have an equal right to the enjoyment of sustained natural wealth.”
